How New Media Works

This site was built entirely from scratch and incorporates a number of unique and innovative features. While it is intended to be intuitive enough for most people, explanations for key features are provided below.

News: How news at New Media works

As explained here, News is based on a Hybrid News Aggregator where stories are delivered via direct links to other sites, full articles on this site itself, and a special pop-up (what's called a modal box) depending on the need. To make the workload manageable, a full and timely spread of news is guaranteed to be published only on Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday morning, with special coverage provided for major stories and other reasons.

The Color Code: What blue and red highlights mean

One of the core ideas behind this site was that there's significant value in having an objective, trusted perspective on things (i.e. "telling it like it is") and that that perspective – what drives news coverage – should be strictly quarantined from opinion for its own benefit. The former is marked by blue and the latter, red, in a system that applies site-wide.

A third color, purple, is used for commentary or messages directly from the editor(s). With this site, the plan is to chart a groundbreaking new course in the news and politics and purple links will act as a sort of guiding hand.

Content Types: The complete list

The purpose of Content Types is explained here. The following are all the different types and their explanations arranged in alphabetical order. Expect new types to be added as the site develops.

Comment

The regular opinion pieces you find in newspapers, known as columns, are filed under Comment at New Media, along with any other minor commentary on the news.

Files

Files are based off the idea that there are things – phenomena, trends, etc. – that to simply show, make powerful points all on their own. They can be straightforward lists of evidence or accountings of particular incidents that serve the same purpose. Files are a basic but powerful type of content, making up the evidentiary basis of the site and allowing New Media to go toe-to-toe against the powerful liberal-progressive consensus of the media and political mainstream.

Proofs

Proofs tackle some of the biggest lingering questions in politics and are intended to provide the definitive answers for them. Issues are addressed as thoroughly and rigorously as possible to succeed where others have failed in putting these questions to rest.
